Book Review: Sacrificial Magic (Downside Ghosts #4), Stacia Kane

I finished reading Sacrificial Magic this morning after days and days, of excitement. Again, I won't reveal any spoilers. In this book, Chess Putnam is still working with the Church, and in fact it opens up while she is at a job. I really liked that right off the bat many things happen, it started off debunking, and of course, we get to see Terrible too.

Chess's relationship with Terrbile is further explored in this fourth book, much more depth to the strands that bind them. There is also a very heartbreaking scene caused a bit by Chess's drug addiction, we see her very vulnerable and small, which also sheds a brighter light into her drug use. We can very much see how that is affecting her life with Terrible, and though I want her to suceed, Chess has to learn fom her mistakes. Her realtionship with Terrbile develops both emotionally, and ahem, sexually. But Chess is fearful of what they have, she's afraid to be loved, because as we all know her life has been one of a girl abused and used, it only makes sense for her to see herself worthless of love. And these are the things that hinder their relationship.

Of course Lex appears in this book as well. He does cause some trouble between Terible and Chess among Chess's drug abuse, and self loathing. He makes me smile, everytime he pops in, it's just his carelessness, but we know there is something else under that facade of cool.

There are some new characters in this book that we might see in the next book, and I'm very exicted about but I won't say who, it will give away part of the twists. Speaking of twists, there is a twist, one that I welcome with open arms because it will cause trouble in the next book. It's at the very end and things are changing so I just can't wait for it to come to play in the next book.

I realy loved this book! We can see what goes on in the mind of Chess which is very thrilling and enligtening at the same time. It was fast paced, emotional, and exciting. I give this book four and a half stars! Some good news is that in June the next one will come out, not to far away!
